This is the unofficial site of the Union County Soccer League, based in Anna, Illinois. As past President of the league, I feel safe in saying that some of the posts below will be wildly inaccurate.

Soccer and Weather
Yesterday's death of a Carbondale track team member after being struck by lightning should remind us all of the perils our kids face when storms approach.
The general rule (according to the National Weather Service) is that if lightning is spotted, the fields should be cleared immediately. As we saw yesterday, that policy is ineffective. My policy is that when THUNDER CAN BE HEARD the fields should be cleared IMMEDIATELY. If at any time you think there is a threat to your child or to your team because of the weather, do not hesitate - get off the field!
I have contacted the Illinois Youth Soccer Association for their opinion and will update this site when I hear from them.

And Finally...
Rather than do it right the first time, I prefer to do it over and over again.
I had to make one last change to the PreK-K schedule, swapping the Slices out of the 4/28 game and replacing them with the Pavers. That should leave all the teams with the same number of games.

Pre-K and K Schedule
I have rescheduled the games orginally scheduled for 4/7/2007. Plesae check the new schedule and let me know if there are any problems.
I'm sorry that there are times a team may play 3 times in a week, but to get in all the games it became necessary.

Update, March 8
I have posted a tentative 1/2 grade schedule. Each team is presently scheduled for 8 games (except the new team, which only has 7). I can schedule a couple more games each if you don't mind playing on Monday nights. For now, let's call the MARCH part of the schedule permanent; we can add games in April if desired.
I am reposting the rosters minus personal information. Thanks to Marcus for pointing it out.

Update March 7
The Pre K/K Schedule is up. Please check it to see if you find anything wrong or that you would like changed. I had to schedule a couple of week nights with two games to get them all in. I hope to have the 2/3 and 3/4 schedules up tomorrow.
I've updated the p/k rosters and the 1/2 rosters. Please check them out. Also, let me know how many new players you have so I can order shirts ASAP!
I am still short a 3/4 coach. If you know anyone who can help PLEASE let me know.

UPDATE, March 1
It looks like there will be two new teams at the P/K level, and one at the 1/2 level. There is a team at the 3/4 level that still doesn't have a coach. I am trying my best to get this all together for a March 17 start. Registration is 240 and climbing...
I was at the fields last Tuesday and found out the concessions stand had been broken into and vandalized. If you would like to donate a microwave to replace the smashed one, please let me know.
Thanks for you patience!

A Related Story to the League Mentioned Below
Interesting story.
If you were wondering, the IYSA rules DO prohibit head gear, but in recreation leagues there is some flexibility. For instance, there's no problem if a kid wants to wear a wool cap on a cold day. Just don't try to wear one of these.

AJCHS Soccer Needs YOU!
From the Goal Club:
"On Monday, February 26 the Goal Club will be making a presentation to the AJCHS School Board to try and convince them to consider funding the soccer teams. It is imperative that we let them know how important soccer is to our community. Please plan to attend this meeting and wear UCSL or AJ soccer shirts. We will meet at the AJ doors at 6:45PM so we can enter the meeting as a group. This could be our one shot at establishing our program. If you have any questions please feel free to call Cindi Eidson at 833-6560. Thanks for your support."

Dave Barry Again for the month of July
"In other sports highlights, Italy defeats France in a World Cup final match that is marred by a violent head-butting incident involving Bode Miller. The U.S. team fares poorly in the World Cup, failing to win a single match; the players blame this on their inability to adjust to the "no hands" rule."

Dave Barry's Year in Review
He reports this from last June:
JUNE
... the big sports story is the start of the World Cup tournament, with U.S. fans hopeful that our players have finally caught up with the rest of the world in soccer. The American team arrives in Italy brimming with confidence, only to be informed that the tournament is being held in Germany. Undaunted, the team boards a train for Geneva, with the coach promising, "We will score many touchdowns."
